About Velorsen

What this site is

Velorsen is a small, hand-built collection of engineering calculators with the working shown alongside the answer. Every tool states the formula it uses, shows the substitution, explains what the result means in plain language, and lists the other tools that go with it.

The aim is not to hide the maths behind a number. It is to show the steps so you can compare them with your own, spot where a unit or a sign went astray, and understand the result rather than just copy it.

• Ohm's Law — voltage, current and resistance
• Power — electrical power from voltage and current
• Voltage Divider — the output across R2 of two resistors
• Current Divider — how a current splits between parallel resistors
• RC Time Constant — the time constant of a resistor and capacitor
• Frequency / Period — the reciprocal relationship between f and T
• dB — power, voltage and current ratios in decibels, and back again
• Nyquist Sampling — the sampling rate a signal needs
• ADC Resolution — LSB size, quantisation levels and bit counts
• Binary Converter — binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal, exactly
• Complex Numbers — rectangular and polar arithmetic for phasors

How the calculations are checked

Each calculator's arithmetic lives in a plain calculation module with its own automated tests, run against known values — textbook examples and the awkward cases: zero, negative parts, division by zero, very large numbers, all four quadrants. The calculation code never touches the page: the interface reads your inputs, the module does the maths, and the page displays what it returns.

That does not make the site infallible. If a result looks wrong, please report it — corrections are genuinely useful.

What this site is not

• It is not professional engineering advice, and it is no substitute for engineering judgement.
• It is not a design tool: it does not know your tolerances, load conditions, standard or safety requirements.
• It is not a simulation environment, and it does not model circuits or waveforms.

How the site is built

Static HTML, CSS and JavaScript — no framework, no build step, no accounts and no tracking scripts of the site's own; the third-party code on a page is Google's, for the analytics, the advertising and the interface fonts, and the privacy policy describes all three. The pages are small, load quickly, work on a phone, and follow your system's light or dark preference; if you switch manually, that choice is remembered in your browser alone.

The interface fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and the privacy policy explains what that means for your data.

Who runs it, and how to get in touch

Velorsen is built and maintained by one person, in their own time. It is not a company, and there is no commercial service behind it. The route for anything at all — a correction, a question, a data request — is the contact page, or email velorsen@gmail.com.
